The Weave

Hindsight is a good teacher. I am amazed at how looking back to the events of the past 6 months, I can see God's providential hand weaving the events together along with other peoples lives to create a tapestry that is honoring to himself. The way that he has intermingled situations and different people from all walks of our life into this wonderful, intricate, masterpiece.

I know there are people who have been touched by Donna that I don't even know about. Her impact on people always seemed positive. I'm probably biased, but I don't know of anyone who did not like her. I'm being honest now. I don't think the girl had any enemies.

One thing that cancer gave the both of us was a will to live. Really live. Not just get "things", and just "get by", but really enjoy people and build relationships with them. In some people, cancer would do just the opposite, but with Donna, she wanted to live. We wanted to experience the wonderful life that has been given to us, and to not take one day for granted. We were married for 15 years, but now it seems so short.

The girls and I recently visited the school where Donna taught 6th grade. They had an open house, and I'm thinking of sending the girls there next year. We stood in the same room that used to be hers, and I can still imagine the day that I first asked her on an impromptu date. We went to Big Boy for a quick bite to eat. We both had things to do later that night, but we were both able to go. It was not the best "proper" first date, we had one of those a few days later, but it was the start of our relationship. It seems like yesterday.

It reminds me of the previous post Donna wrote, Don't Miss It!

Thanks Scott, for this post. I appreciate you sharing your heart.

I don't think you are biased at all by saying that Donna didn't have enemies. I believe that 100%! It's the woman God made her to be...loving, caring, encouraging. The attributes are abundant. God was indeed blessed with His daughter and how she lived her life.

And when going through difficult times and circumstances, you begin to realize that people, and those relationships you form with them, are what is important...it's not the earthly things that will soon fade away.

I remember sitting in that classroom 16 years ago. I loved Oakland and I LOVED her. And I remember talking with her about how she would love to send the girls one day. So maybe this is the time. Although it would be a big change, I think they would love OCS, just as I did! :)

Prayin' for you!

Scott - Heard this song from Steven Curtis Chapman not long ago. You & Donna really understood/understand this! You Praised God in and through your storm. This life here is not our own when we belong to Him. Her post was great and your continued posts are a blessing and an amazing testimony to those who visit and read.

"Busy Man" lyrics
I know a man named Billy
He's got almost everything
Three stories, two cars, one swimming pool
And some broken parts of an empty heart
And I'm thinkin'...

Billy, Billy, Billy, you're a very busy man
But you're running with your eyes closed
You could be missing life all along the way
And you'd never even know it
You're a busy man, Billy, Billy, you're a busy man
Just too busy man

You've got a lot of nice things there, Billy
But they've cost you more than you know
'Cause what is really worth, can you tell me
If you're gaining the world, but you're losing your soul
And I'm thinkin'...

Billy, Billy, Billy, you're a very busy man
But you're running with your eyes closed
Looks like you traded life for the things you have
Not the thing you really wanted
You're a busy man Billy, Billy, you're a very busy man
Just too busy man

So when the day is over
And the lights go out
Do you ever stop and wonder,
Wonder what it's all about
Wonder what it's all about
Wonder what it's all about
Hey, Billy, do you ever wonder
What it's all about?

Billy, Billy, Billy, you're a very busy man
But you're running with your eyes closed
You could be missing life all along the way
And you'd never even know it
You're a busy man, Billy, Billy, you're a busy man
Just too busy man

Slow down, busy man, take a look around you
When it's all said and done tell me what's it gonna come to

I think Donna's life yelled out to every person she met!

Thanks, Scott for the post. In these uncertain times, workforce reductions, pay reductiosn, etc, it is a blessing to sit back and read these posts and realize what truly is important, Faith, Family and Friends.
Blessings to you and the girls.

As I only knew Donna as a teacher at OCS, all my memories of her are in her classroom, or standing in the hall before school. She was always smiling, always friendly. I'm glad the girls got to go see her old room...even though I think it is part of the HS/Jr High now!

Scott, thanks for the post. I went back to the link and read it again and of course could not help but weep over your loss. But I have been asking God to change my life philosophy this past year, which is "life stinks then you die. Yeah!!" (I feel I am just being realistic) But God has challenged me on that issue as it is he who gave me this life and how dishonoring to him for me to say that his gift stinks! I am working on this - and God is so good to love me in spite of me. I have printed out Donna's post to remind me that God's gifts are precious and to be treated with care. And his continued gift of life to you and your girls, although deeply painful at this time, is also a precious gift.

Scott - Thank you for continuing to post on your journey. Donna's life inspires me still...When I am having a "poor me" day I come here and am reminded that life is a gift - and to enjoy every moment. You are in our thoughts daily!
